Annual Greenway Cycle 2020

The Annual Greenway Cycle in aid of Local Mayo Cancer Support Centre, Rock Rose House, takes place on Sunday August 2nd 2020. The Cycle is organised each year by John Tiernan who describes Mayo Cancer Support, Rock Rose House as a place where “a light of hope can be given to people in a very dark place in their lives who are affected by a cancer diagnosis”. This year the cycle is dedicated in memory of the late Regina Duffy who launched the cycle last year. Regina was a great friend and supporter of Rock Rose House and she will always be fondly remembered by everyone involved in the organisation.

Mayo Cancer Support offers support to people affected by Cancer and their families and friends in our Main Cancer Support Centre, Rock Rose House, Castlebar and also in their Outreach Services in Ballina and Achill . Some of the services we offer include a Drop-In centre for Information and Advice and Listening, Telephone Support Professional Counselling, Therapies such as Massage,Reflexology and Bio-Energy, Stress Management/Self-Esteem Courses, Mindfulness, Art Therapy, Therapeutic Writing, Yoga and Range of Support Groups. All services provided by Mayo Cancer Support are free of charge.

Last year 1,994 people affected by Cancer and their families throughout Mayo accessed the services provided by Mayo Cancer Support. Trisha Greavy, General Manager of the organisation said “the delivery of the services wouldn’t be possible without the goodwill and generosity of the public through Donations, Organising and Supporting our Fundraising Events, which 90% of our funding relies on. All money raised in Mayo goes directly to the Local Cancer Support Centres in Mayo and we would like to Sincerely Thank everyone who supports our organisation so that we are able to continue to deliver the provision of services to people in Mayo affected by Cancer and their families. This year , the current Covid-19 pandemic has had adverse financial implications for our organisation as well as many other charities delivering much needed services throughout the country and we are so grateful to John for organising this event each year.
Registration for the cycle is €20 and will take place on Sunday 2nd August at 9am at Westport Leisure Centre and will depart at 10am to Tiernaur where refreshments will be served at Nevins Newfield Inn before cyclists return to Westport. Helmets are compulsory for all cyclists. We will ensure full compliance of current HSE guidelines during the cycle and we would kindly ask everyone to respect social distancing rules.

Anyone who wishes to support the cycle can do so by donate online via www.mayocancer.ie or through Facebook using the Go Fund Me Page. Your support for this event would be greatly appreciated.
